A farmer lived in a village. His name was Chandra Singh. He was highly respected in the village. His heart was soft and he used to help people. He had a son. His son name was Mohan. His son used to play with his fellow friends. His friends were bad and he used to return home late at night. When Chandra Singh asked him -"Why have you come home so late?" Mohan says -"While playing, we did not know when it was night."
Then father again said –“Will your friends support you in trouble?” Mohan immediately said - "Why won't? They are my best friends. They can even die for me. They are my true friends." Chandra Singh said -"Okay, you call your friends last night at one o'clock near the banyan tree outside the village. I want to see how many of your friends reach there. Who will know whether your friends are true or false?”
The next day, the son obeyed his father and told his friends to come near the banyan tree at night. It was winter time. Chandra Singh covered the black blanket and sat down with the son under the banyan tree. It's one o'clock, it's two o'clock. It was morning but no one came there. Chandra Singh's son was very ashamed. Then Chandra Singh said -“Son, you have seen the condition of your friends. Now let me introduce you to my friends.”
The next day Chandra Singh went to the house of his friend Sukhiram at midnight
with his son. On knocking on the door, Sukhiram asked from inside-"Who
is?" Chandra Singh then says -"I am Chandra Singh. I need some money.”
Sukhiram said - "I come now.” In a
while, Sukhiram came out with a bag of money in his hand, he said keeping the
bag in Chandra Singh's hand -"Tell me there is Rs5000 in this bag and
how many you want."
Chandra Singh has returned bag to Sukhiram and said to his son -"See this is Sukhiram, this is my friend. It is very rich. It can help me with money. Now let's see you my other friend.”
Now Chandra Singh reached the home of a
wrestler. After reaching there, Chandra Singh called -"Wrestler come out
soon." Hearing the voice of Chandra Singh, the wrestler came immediately
with a stick and said -"Let me show who is bothering you? I taste it
right now.” Now Chandra Singh told his son-"This wrestler is my second friend.
It is ready for me to do anything without knowing he knows that I am in
trouble.” The son listened intently to his father. The father explained to him
-"Son! There is no benefit to gathering a crowd of friends. One should
make his friend after examining. A true friend is like a treasure. It helps us
in trouble.” Now Mohan understood what true friends are called.
